About Us
At Trained Brain we focus on the ability to give an athlete, coach, team or organisation the tools for change and not the theory for change.
Trained Brain coaches The Mental Game. Work is conducted with individual athletes on a one to one basis at an office nearest to you and with teams and organisations for sports and business on site or at a preferred location.
Many of the skills we coach are applicable to Sports industry and life in general. This reflects the characteristics and traits we develop whilst playing sports and how they are transferred into other arenas.
Trainer Biographies
Jamie Edwards - UK
Jamie Edwards specialises in the art of thinking differently. His eclectic mix of disciplines will help you succeed in sport, business or life.
A former basketball international, Jamie developed Peak Performance skills to overcome the physical limitations of being 5’6” tall playing basketball at both club and international levels. Having spent time in the USA where many athletes are introduced to MENTAL TRAINING early in their career he had first hand experience of the skills used to develop NBA players, and continued to develop his knowledge and skills and became a passionate student of personal and professional development techniques.
As founder of Trained Brain Jamie’s approach to coaching, be it in sport or business, challenges traditional learning techniques and provides a unique experience that develops a ‘think differently’ perspective. This will enable YOU to apply the tools and the skills immediately and see the results. After the first test against Australia in Summer 2005, Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff did just that and sought assistance with his mental game by approaching Jamie for advice. What followed was an extraordinary turn around and Freddie was awarded two man of the match appearances and a Man of the series as a result of developing new mental skills with Trained Brain.
Jamie has worked with a wide array of elite athletes, including Ryder Cup stars such as Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood, international rugby players including Lewis Moody MBE, World rally championship Driver Guy Wilks, World Snooker player Jimmy White and several outstanding young Premiership Footballers such as Newcastle United’s striker Shola Ameobi. Currently working closely with the PGA of Great Britain on the Trainees diploma course, Jamie was this year the first speaker to be invited back in two consecutive years to present at the PGA of Sweden coaching conference.
Jamie has also been a significant presence in the business world, presenting keynotes and dynamic workshops to large companies such as Red Bull, Fortis and BMW enabling them to apply efficient management techniques to their company strategies.
Jamie embodies the mission of “changing the way sports are coached and learned” with an energy that is infectious. If you would like to find out more about booking Trained Brain or consultations with Jamie Edwards, Contact us

The Four Quadrants
Trained Brain's Mental Skills Programme aims to give you State Control - to
put you in control of your state of mind when conducting your business.
The programme is presented in four manageable modules:
Before
How you think before you start your working day can have a knock-on effect for
the rest of the day. How and what you think before you embark on a project,
task or meeting will influence the outcome. Your habitual thought patterns can
lead you towards the results desired - or can lead you away from these.
Trained Brain identify these limiting patterns which help to discover solutions
to change.
During
Typically, most technical expertise and skills are employed when a business
activity is actually taking place - for example a sales call, a client meeting,
project planning, presentations. If you are performing well, this is largely
attributed to factors in the during quadrant. If your performance
is sub-standard, this is also attributed to factors in this quadrant.
Trained Brain develop improvements in performance in this quadrant by looking
at what were your peak states, identifying how you achieved
these, and, more importantly, how you can recreate them. This is achieved through signals. In sports, the football brain is triggered into a
state of concentration by the referees' whistle! What is your referee whistle
in the work place?
In Between
What you do or think about during the in between quadrant of
your activities, affects the performance quality of the during.
It is in this In in between quadrant that you have the potential
for the greatest changes, yet it tends to be allocated the least time in the
development of performance. To be a peak performer necessitates being in the
right state of mind to perform a skill, but most people have
absolutely no idea how to control their state. Accessing the Ideal Performance
State (IPS) for the business is what separates great staff from mediocre.
Trained Brain address how the IPS is managed - for instance, through use of
body language, the self-talk between meetings or during the day, and the types
of images that are created that produce unresourceful states. You are shown
how to control your performance state to achieve peak performance consistently,
and to eliminate erratic and inconsistent performance.
"I don’t get too nervous. A couple of times it was difficult but
I really like these situations and you have to have the capability to control
your nerves. The most common way is through breathing techniques, it’s
fairly basic.”
A quote from Niclas Fasth after finishing 2nd in the British Open at Royal Lytham
in 2001 as a relative unknown graphically illustrates the effective use of mental
skills.
After
How do you process the day? How do you evaluate your performance? Without this
kind of control of what is running on the movie screen of the mind, performance
suffers and stress can result. Stress is a pattern of creating poor pictures,
sounds and chatter that in turn creates the feeling associated with stress?
Trained Brain provide the tools which enable you to instantly recall past success
and purge failure.
It is in these areas of your tasks and activities that you - and your team -
can begin to make effective changes to the way you perform daily. And it is
in these areas that we provide the tools for training the business brain.
